    A tip for next time, when reassembling the motor (big one) those covers that go before bearings and bolt to main motor covers are easier to assemble if you put one threaded rod trough one hole than put a main(bigger) cover trough the hole where bolt goes, that way you don't have to keep holes aligned. 35 years of servicing and rewinding motors... Edit: 26:34 if a bearing goes on the shaft you press it on inner race of a bearing (never on the middle, where balls are), if a bearing goes in the cover of a motor in this case, always press it on outer race of a bearing

    Another good video. My 2 cents on cold blue. - Caswell concentrate. 1 part caswell to 9 parts water or anything in-between to suit. - Thoroughly wash with water and degreaser, prior to using solvent of choice. - Soak parts in solution while lightly buffing with fine steel wool until desired results achieved. - Wipe and oil. While it's not as nice as hot blue, the results are very agreeable and consistent. Thanks for the video 🤙

One question, if your 'dog bone' extends the arm length how are you going to accommodate the 'loss' of the chain length? If you add say 6" to the arm then the chain is 6" less on the lifting end, or is it just to lift a big chuck off and swing it around onto a lifting table that's the same height?

    • @VanoverMachineAndRepair

    We had a joke in the Marines, well any branch, where we ordered someone to bring a sky hook. Too bad they have them now. Jokes over. When I was in Iraq in 2003 I was sent on a mission to find our lost AM2 matting (field expedient tarmac and runway sheets). When I got back, one of the other Sergeants ordered a junior Marine to "get some flight line". I went with the junior Marine, got a 30k forklift and borrowed some AM2 matting from a buddy's shop. I had the junior Marine drive the matting back to the Sergeant that ordered him to get it. We laughed for hours after that, and still do when we get together!

    • @VanoverMachineAndRepair

      Yes they are great. However it is very dependent on the machine. The tool is perfect but if your machine is not tight or securely mounted to the floor results may vary. My machine is pretty tight sometimes I get good finishes sometumes I do not. There are a lot of variables. I can tell you this when I put it on my k&t it’s awesome because of rigidity. If you’re using the smaller bars it’s great the bigger bars work but there are limitations on the bp. The product is good that is not in question.

    I’m not a welder and have little experience with it- so please forgive my ignorance. I noticed when welding on the tubing cap at 29:21, you welded downward in the vertical position. But this could have easily been setup in the typical horizontal position- which I assume is a much easier weld to complete. Was there a specific reason why you went with vertical welds? Thanks!

    • @VanoverMachineAndRepair
      @VanoverMachineAndRepair 6 днів тому

    Here in the UK, if we modify lifting equipment, it would need total recertification to make sure that those modifications were suitable for the intended purpose. If that was not done and there was a subsequent accident, the HSE would have a field day. HSE being the Health and Safety Executive (OSHA equivalent). If they came and did an unannounced visit to a site and found equipment such as this in use, they'd probably put a Prohibition Notice on it until suitable documentation could be provided as to it being safe to use. There was a case of the HSE issuing a PN to a company, who then continued to use the equipment as it was. A person was killed a couple of days later in an accident directly as a result of the PN being ignored. I think the 2 directors of the company got 10 years jail time each, I couldn't find the case online as it was sometime ago, but I'll carry on looking.

      @VanoverMachineAndRepair The way you build things Kyle, I am 100% sure that you won't have any issues at. Any possible failure will probably be on the bits you haven't modified. As a one man outfit I'm sure you will be OK. An issue you might have, is should you decide to fit it to your truck and the public are around. Apologies about going on about these things, but I spent 5 years working as an Insurance Inspector on pressure systems rather than on lifting equipment. But I came across so much poor practice, it always bothers me when people make alterations. I have never seen anything you have done as poor practice by the way.

    • @billdoodson4232
      @billdoodson4232 6 днів тому

      @@scottjones7279Hi, short answer is no. Longer answer is possibly. For you on your own then no you don't need to have certificates. The HSE have no jurisdiction over you. But say you employ a couple of people to do some work for you and you allow them to use some of your workshop kit, then I think you may, may have some liability. A case in point; on google search for: press hse gov uk man spared jail for working on his own roof, gives an idea what can happen and this was without an accident, just the Prohibition Notice.
